Behavioral Health Technician-Float (Desert Garden)

Job Description


General Summary:  The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is responsible for the management of client behavior in our Inpatient facility. The BHT will provide counseling and crisis services, ensure individuals are safe, healthy, and staying in a clean environment while in the facility, and will be responsible for encountering services within the Electronic Health Record.   


  • Observe clients, listen to concerns, and records observations.
    • Document and/or report any areas of concern related to the client’s behaviors/interactions in clinical records per policy.
    • Assist in the admission/orientation process including obtaining vital signs, and urine/lab specimens.
    • Provide counseling and other necessary services, including crisis planning.
    • Complete a safety search of the client's and client’s belongings. 
    • Under supervision from the medical staff, will assist in the self-administration of medication. 
    • Assist clients with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, and grooming.
    • Ensure all clients are accounted for throughout the shift.
    • Facilitate education or recreation groups as assigned or scheduled.
    • Work effectively with the client’s support system, and self-help groups. 
    • Act as advocate and liaison for client’s access to resources to support service plan goals.
    • Attend staff meetings and treatment team meetings. 
    • May be required to transport members in personal or company vehicles.
    • May provide 24-hour crisis intervention.
    • Responsible for following any policies, procedures, and controls established by the organization, the HIPAA Privacy Officer, and/or the HIPAA Security Officer regarding access to, protection of, and the use of the PHI.   
    • Performs other related duties as assigned 

• Education – Bachelor’s degree in a field related to behavioral health; or equivalent experience and education
• Experience – Two (2) years of experience working the public behavioral health system; experience with SMI population preferred
• Regulatory o 21 years of age o Eligible for DPS Level I fingerprint clearance. o First Aide, CPR certification (Employer provides).Initial current negative TB test result, within the prior 12 months (Employer provides)
