  • Overview

    Therapeutic Foster Care providers allow adults diagnosed with serious mental illness the opportunity to live within a home-style setting in the community. Therapeutic foster homes offer consistency, structure and support to the clients while they learn to function more independently. Providers assist each client in achieving his/her personal and individual treatment goals and objectives. Providers promote greater independence and self-sufficiency in their residents, encouraging their involvement in community activities and events that are educational, recreational and pro-social. Individuals residing in Therapeutic Foster Care are provided encouragement and suport to participate in activities that build on their strengths and enhance their lives.

    Provider's home must be able to be licensed by the Arizona Dept. of Health Services; rental properties are accepted with landlord's agreement; apartments are not able to be licensed. Providers may serve between one and three residents. Providers must be able to provide monitoring of residents on a 24-hour basis.

    Intermountain Centers provides an assigned Coordinator to provide initial and ongoing support and oversight. 24 hours of required annual training is provided at no cost to providers.

    Responsibilities

    • Model, teach and reinforce living skills with residents, as they endeavor to reach their personal and individual goals and objectives.
    • Monitor the self-administration of resident's prescription and over the counter medications.
    • Demonstrate patience and compassion for residents
    • Practice sound judgement in daily interactions with residents
    • Work as a team member with Coordinator and other stakeholders, in the provision of structure and support for the residents.

    Qualifications

    • 21 years of age
    • Minimum of three years' experience working in behavioral health
    • Eligible for DPS Level One fingerprint clearance
    • Annual Negative TB and Physical exam
    • CPR and First Aide certification
